When people
feel better, they are happier and more
productive. They have extra energy during
the day, and enjoy activities outside of
work. In
addition, studies show that healthy and physically fit
people have fewer on the job
accidents.
Most chronic
diseases are associated with lifestyle
practices. Among these diseases are heart disease,
cancer, and other chronic debilitating
diseases such as arthritis and diabetes.
Contemporary lifestyle may be an associated
factor in the development and progression of
these diseases.
A high level of fitness is important
because it enhances the quality
of life. Accordingly, the body adapts to stresses imposed
upon it. The less one does, the less the
body will be capable of doing. Lack of
physical activity causes a phenomenon called disuse atrophy, a
condition where the body begins to
deteriorate because of non-use.
Unfortunately, many people do not take
the small amount of time necessary to
implement a good Fitness and Wellness
program. Sometimes it's
because they are not sure how to set up a
program. Other times, people don't know
where to go for the assistance needed to
modify lifestyle habits.
As
businesses increasingly depend on a
productive workforce to be competitive, many
organizations are starting to realize there
are many bottom line benefits; from reduced
healthcare costs, to increased creativity, to
decreased absenteeism, when a wellness program is
initiated. Healthy People = Healthy
Business.
